Blog tip: Cecil Osbourne’s Lost Murals Rediscovered at Spitalfields Life tells the story of how murals depicting life in London neighborhoods wound up being rescued. Images of the full murals (which can be enlarged) are posted. To me, it all suggests so many lines of narrative for a writer: The stories Osbourne himself illustrated, e.g. the first hospital to recognize women as doctors. The artist’s own life, which could inspire a fictional character. An almost forgotten but once thriving local art scene as a setting. An auction or tag sale purchase that leads to a rediscovery. Meanwhile, the real ongoing story is finding a home for the rescued murals. Here’s hoping the Gentle Author can give us a follow-up report one of these days.
