“Her mother calls her Flora/ She doesn’t know her papa …” The illustration by Théophile Steinlen of a fatherless little girl on her way to school is way too innocent for my Angelica (the child Amy Richardson calls Demonica). All the same, I was delighted when I came across it in the song collection, Dans la Rue by the songwriter, comedian, and entrepreneur Aristide Bruant. The omnibus at the top also tickled me. It was almost too good to be true for the title to refer to the district where Amy lives before she moves in with Sonja.
