Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how much the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" is like Mrs. Coulter's evil experiments in Philip Pullman's Golden Compass? Separate migrant children from their parents and lock them in cages. Gives me the moral shudders.

Yes, I see that, too, Katherine. The oddball, Ann Coulter, who is an ultra conservative, writes and speaks all sorts of nonsensical ideas, is too similar to the fictional character whose name she shares. She's a type of Fox News mentality without actually being a regular on the show. She supports Trump no matter who he's hurting. She finds a way around his behavior like he does.

Pat, thanks as always for your comment. Although the coincidence of the names is funny, it makes me uneasy in one way: This blog is meant to celebrate and encourage creativity, especially women’s art and writing. Every once in a while, something in the news hurts so much that it cries out for comment; but I don’t want Picturing a World to become a platform for attacking individual women’s voices, even those with whom I disagree. Personally, I don’t read or watch Ann Coulter; but if I did and disliked everything she said, I still would not use this space to disparage her.
Of course, it’s worth taking note of injustices, past and present; but, on the whole, my focus is on engaging the world through the arts. I know that you, through your dancing, are making your corner of it that much more beautiful. Let’s cheer on everybody else who is doing the same in their own way!
