Exhibition alert: What a rich image this banner for New York Art Worlds, 1870–1890 is in and of itself! The student with the calipers at the bottom or the open book of bird illustrations at the right—they alone are enough to inspire stories. And you've got time to visit the show at the MetMuseum; it runs through July 24, 2024.

Hi Katherine,
It's a beautiful exhibition albeit a small one showing the very beginnings of women in the art world based in NYC being appreciated and lauded for their work.
One female artist painted children's likenesses on plates and made a great living from parents who were so willing to order this artwork.
Most of the artwork shown is by male artists in the making of tiles, sculpture, amazing piece of wall art by Tiffany with abstract flowery vegetation in the center. It looks contemporary.
Overall, a very uplifting way to spend time at one of my favorite museums.
All the best,
Pat
